From bustling city streets to the less-traveled paths, I put the Sherman-S through its paces. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just EUC-curious, this review is for anyone who appreciates the blend of technology, power, and freedom on one wheel. Let’s get rolling!

Performance and Power

As an avid electric unicycle (EUC) enthusiast, I’ve always been fascinated by the sheer power and agility these machines offer. When I first encountered the Veteran Sherman-S, I knew I was in for a treat. Its performance is nothing short of exhilarating – with a top speed that dares me to push my limits every time I ride. The range is another aspect where the Sherman-S shines. Whether I’m commuting across the city or venturing on longer exploratory rides, it never fails to impress with its endurance.

Comparing the Sherman-S to its predecessors and competitors, it’s clear that it stands a notch above. The perfect blend of speed and range it offers is hard to find in other EUCs. It’s this combination that makes the Sherman-S a go-to choice for anyone looking for a reliable, high-performance urban transporter.

Choosing Between Street or Knobby Off-Road Tires for Your Sherman S

When it comes to the Veteran Sherman-S, one of the crucial choices you’ll make is between street tires and knobby off-road tires. I opted for the knobby tires, and here’s why:

Knobby Off-Road Tires:

  • Terrain Versatility: The knobby tires are your go-to choice for handling a variety of terrains. From rocky paths to muddy trails, these tires provide excellent grip and stability, making them ideal for adventurous rides beyond the smooth city streets.
  • Enhanced Stability at High Speeds: For those who like to push the limits, these tires offer better stability at higher speeds, especially on uneven surfaces.
  • Durability: Knobby tires tend to be more durable, handling wear and tear better when frequently used on rough terrains.

Street Tires:

  • Smooth Riding Experience: If your primary use is on paved roads, street tires offer a smoother and more efficient ride. They are designed to provide better handling and less resistance on flat surfaces.
  • Reduced Noise and Vibration: Compared to knobby tires, street tires typically produce less noise and vibration on paved roads, making for a more comfortable ride in urban settings.
  • Better for Beginners: For those new to riding electric unicycles, street tires might offer a more manageable learning experience due to their smoother handling (on pavement, e.g., streets, roads).

So, what should you choose? Street or knobby tire? Well, the choice between knobby and street tires for the Sherman-S really boils down to personal riding preferences and terrain. I chose knobby tires for their versatility and stability on off road trails, e.g., mountain bike single track, fire roads. But if you’re mainly cruising through city streets, street tires would be more up your alley. It’s all about what suits your riding style and the kind of paths you’ll be taking.

Design and Build Quality

When I first laid eyes on the Veteran Sherman-S, its design struck me as bold and unapologetic. The EUC’s industrial aesthetics make it more than just a mode of transport; it’s a statement on wheels. Riding through the city, I can feel the envious glances of passersby. But this beauty isn’t just skin deep. The build quality is exceptional, exuding a sense of ruggedness and durability that’s essential for a frequent rider like me.

However, it’s important to say that this robust build comes at a cost – weight. The Sherman-S is on the heavier side, which can be a bit of a challenge for those who need to carry it around frequently. For me, the trade-off is worth it, considering the unparalleled performance it delivers. But for someone who prioritizes portability, this might be a drawback worth considering.

Side note: You may want to upgrade your pedals on the Sherman S to something with more aggressive spikes for better grip. While the stock pedals on the Sherman S are decent, myself and others have come to the conclusion that they lack the preferred grip needed in demanding situations, such as damp weather, mud, or heavy carving.

Here’s an article where I talk about spiked pedals, and my preferred kind and setup.

A spike pedal upgrade can enhance your ride experience on any performance electric unicycle. These are my Begode spiked CNC pedals on my Veteran Sherman Max EUC (which I still own and ride a lot).

User Experience

One of the most compelling aspects of the Veteran Sherman-S is its sheer versatility. Initially, I thought of it as primarily an urban machine, perfect for weaving through city streets. However, it didn’t take long to realize that this EUC is much more than that. Whether I’m gliding over smooth city pavements or adventuring through off-road trails, the Sherman-S handles it all with ease.

Maneuverability and stability are where the Sherman-S truly excels. In the urban jungle, it’s agile enough to navigate through tight spaces, making it ideal for city commutes. But when I take it off-road, it surprises me every time with its capability to handle rough terrains, something not all EUCs can boast about. For new riders, there might be a learning curve, but it’s worth the effort. Once you get the hang of it, the Sherman-S feels like an extension of your own movements, responding intuitively to your commands.

Safety Features

Safety is paramount when riding an EUC, and the Sherman-S doesn’t disappoint in this area. The partially protective roll cage is a commendable feature, offering a degree of protection in case of falls.

You can find these black, cool looking foam EUC side pads for your electric unicycle on Amazon. There are quite a few options online that work well at affordable prices than compared with the higher end specialized side pads, e.g., Clark Pads, Grizzla Pads, Kai Pads, and more. Power pads not only help you control your EUC ride, but also offer a good amount of side or frontal protection for the machine in case of a drop, slide, or crash.

But I’ve found that for complete peace of mind, combining it with aftermarket enhancements like Grizzla EUC Pads can make a significant difference. See my full review of the Grizzla EUC Power Pads. These additions not only enhance the EUC’s durability but also improve the overall riding experience, especially when venturing off the beaten path.

The Sherman-S is equipped with standard safety features like braking warning lights, a tail light, and dual input charge ports, which are essentials for any EUC. But what sets it apart is its ability to maintain stability and provide responsive acceleration, which are crucial for avoiding unexpected obstacles, be it in the city or on a trail.

Price and Value for Money

The price tag of the Veteran Sherman-S is something that certainly makes one pause and consider. When I first saw the price, I must admit, I experienced a bit of sticker shock. However, when evaluating the cost, it’s crucial to consider what you’re getting for your money.

In my opinion, the price is reflected in the quality, reliability, and the overall utility of the Veteran Sherman S as a daily ride! I love mine.

The Sherman-S is a high-end EUC, and its price reflects its premium status in the market. With its exceptional range, robust build quality, and unmatched performance, the Sherman-S stands as a worthy investment for serious EUC riders. Yes, it’s more expensive than many other EUCs, but the level of technology, durability, and sheer riding pleasure it offers justifies the price for those who demand the best.

In the realm of EUCs, you often get what you pay for, and with the Sherman-S, you’re paying for a top-tier experience. It’s a machine designed for enthusiasts who value performance, reliability, and versatility. So, while the initial investment is significant, the long-term value it provides, in my opinion, makes it a sound purchase for the right rider.

Conclusion

The Veteran Sherman-S is an embodiment of what modern personal electric transportation can be. It’s more than just an EUC; it’s a versatile, powerful, and reliable companion for both city streets and adventurous trails. The Sherman-S might not be for everyone, especially considering its price and weight, but for those who seek an unparalleled riding experience, it’s a top contender.

Whether you’re a seasoned EUC rider or someone looking to upgrade to a high-performance model, the Veteran Sherman-S warrants serious consideration. It’s a testament to how far EUC technology has come and a glimpse into the future of urban and adventure mobility.

With that, I conclude my comprehensive review of the Veteran Sherman-S. If you’re contemplating a foray into the world of high-end electric unicycles, the Sherman-S should undoubtedly be on your radar.

Happy (and safe) riding!
